Update, June 2011

Registration are coming in steadily for the 7th Harmonica Masters Workshops in Trossingen. The small town in Germany's beautiful Black Forest region is the international headquarters of the Hohner Musical Instrument company and has played a pivotal role in the harmonica manufacturing industry for well over 150 years as well as hosting numerous musical events connected with the instrument and playing an important role in harmonica education. The Masters Workshops take place on the new campus, situated on the former Hohner factory site in the heart of Trossingen, a place steeped in the history of the instrument and still intimately bound up with with its developments today. As in the years up to 2008, all classes will be held in the old Hohner Conservatory building, which has been freshly renovated and now houses the Trossingen Music School. Concerts and sessions take place as usual in the Kesselhaus, a couple of minutes walk away on the other side of the campus.

Things kick off on Wednesday at 2pm and wind down with a chill-out brunch on Sunday. In between, participants spend four days of total immersion in the "Mecca of the harmonica", where the daily classes represent but one part of the total experience. The evenings are devoted to open sessions, ending each night with Joe Filisko's legendary acoustic jam, and the programme for the Harmonica Masters Concerts on Friday and Saturday nights has now been finalized. The extensive supporting programme includes presentations by the Hohner Service Team, who will perform on the spot repairs and provide expert advice. Optional tours of the Hohner factory and the Harmonica Museum, home of the world's most extensive collection of reed instruments, provide a unique insight into the past, present and future of the harmonica industry and of course the countless artists who have made our instrument what it is today.

As well as appearing in concert on Friday with Joe Filisko, acoustic guitar master Eric Noden will provide session accompaniment every evening, together with Ondra Kriz, a talented young Czech pianist who combines classical training with a deep love of jazz and blues and is at home in a wide variety of styles. Ondra will also accompany Hermine Deurloo at her concert on Friday evening and will join the band backing David Barrett and Steve Baker on Saturday. For this concert and the final on-stage session we have once again been able to engage the services of the excellent Thomas "Gaz" Brodbeck on bass & vocals and Steve Mushrush on guitar, plus a drummer TBA.
